HANGU: The repatriation of the internally displaced families continued on the second day on Sunday after the government implemented the Murree Peace Agreement between the rival tribes in Kurram Agency and reopened the Thall-Parachinar Road after five years. Official sources said that the 80 Sunni families displaced from Parachinar in 1982 returned to their homes after 29 years while the road was reopened for all kinds of traffic. “Parachinar Road has been opened and trucks loaded with items reached Parachinar.” Under the agreement, the Shia families displaced years ago would be rehabilitated in their hometown Sadda. The sources in the political administration said that Rs0.3 million each would be given to those whose houses had been destroyed in the violence. Kohat division Commissioner Sahibzada Muhammad Anis reopened the Thall-Parachinar Road. The commissioner, accompanied by Shia and Sunni tribal elders, travelled from Kohat to the boundary of Kurram Agency and reopened the road at the Chappari checkpoint. Hamid Hussain Turi, Wali Syed Mian and Amin Ali led the Shia elders while Sunni elders were led by Salim Khan Orakzai, Malik Mahmood Bangash and Pir Rahman Shah. Speaking on the occasion, Sahibzada Anis asked the elders of both sects to keep a vigilant eye on the miscreants and save the peace of their area. The tribal elders assured the administration that both sects would maintain peace at all costs. Last year the road was reopened on the directives of the Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik. However, the administration had to close it again when passenger vehicles were attacked on three occasions since its reopening. Around 20 persons were killed and 30 others sustained injuries in the attacks. Meanwhile, the political administration distributed Rs0.3 million among 27 of the 47 affected families in Sadda town.

PHOTO: IJAZ MAHMOOD/EXPRESS LAHORE: Chairs and even standing room ran short as more people than expected turned up for the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s (PTI) ‘Remove the government, save the country’ rally at Minar-i-Pakistan on Sunday. The PTI had arranged for 40,000 chairs on the western side of Minar-i-Pakistan Park for the participants, but these were all filled even before the first speech began at around 4:15pm. PTI organisers made several announcements from the stage asking the police to remove tents and barbed wire erected around the venue. People continued streaming into the venue till around the time Imran Khan began his speech at 6:30pm. By then, the venue area had grown to about double the size initially arranged by the PTI. A sea of people waving red and green flags stood as far back as GT Road around the boundary wall of Minar-i-Pakistan, from where the stage was almost invisible. Unlike at the Muslim League-Nawaz rally on Friday, no participant left the venue before the end of Imran Khan’s speech. The organisers had invited artists like Strings and Shehzad Roy to keep the crowd entertained, but the PTI supporters appeared far more interested in the speeches than the music. Most of the participants were young people, but there were also a good number of older men and women present with their children. “It is time for change. All nations must rise against corruption,” said 20-year-old Shoaib Ahmed. Waving a PTI flag, he said that he had never been to any political rally before. He came out this time, he said, because he felt that Imran Khan would make the country safer. He said he would participate in future PTI rallies too. Tariq Mughal and Salahuddin, members of the Aero Modelling Club, flew a remote-controlled plane towing a PTI flag at the venue. Mughal said that he and his friends at the club had recently decided to join the PTI and this was their way of showing their support for the party. Badruddin, 60, a resident of Malipura in Lahore, said he had been a Peoples Party supporter for 25 years. “My family has never voted for any party other than the PPP, but I am fed up with all these politicians and have decided to vote for Imran Khan,” he said. Badruddin said his family owned power looms in Malipura and their business was on the verge of collapse due to power outages and rising prices of raw material. He said that his sons and wife did not know he was at the rally, but he would make sure that they voted for PTI at the next elections. Faiza Ambreen, who attended the rally with three children and her husband, said that seeing the “tsunami of people” at the venue had given her hope that Pakistanis realise that their country is in trouble and that they need to do something to save it. “If people continue their support for Imran Khan, Pakistan will become a progressive country,” she said. BREAKING NEWS / PRESS RELEASE: SAUDI ARABIA / Canada / Hajj detention – Well known Canadian cleric arrested in Holy City of Madina in Prophet’s Mosque Sunday, 30 October 2011 10:41 Islamic Human Rights Commission (IHRC) has received various eyewitness statements that well-known Canadian cleric Shaykh Usama Al-Atar [1] was arrested this morning after Fajr (morning) prayers in the Holy City of Madina (approximately 06.30 KSA time). A silent vigil by about 60 hujjaj (pilgrims) from various countries has just been reportedly dispersed from outside the Central Madina police station where the Shaykh was being held. This dispersal was reportedly the result of advice from the British Embassy to protestors. The Shaykh was taken away, with reports that he will be charged tomorrow for breaking the arm of a member of the religious police, a claim vehemently denied by the eyewitnesses. The Shaykh was reportedly reciting Ziyarat [2] with a small group of about 10 hujjaj in Jannatul Baqi [3] when guards, and then religious police became involved in trying to silence them. The harassment from the guards and religious police resulted in the group leaving the Baqi and continuing their recitation outside the cemetery. Another set of religious police continued the harassment, and the group closed their prayer books and left the Baqi going through the Prophet’s Mosque. It was at this time that a member of the religious police called out that the Shaykh was a ‘thief’ which resulted in him being detained by security guards and concerned locals until the police arrived. Whilst being held in a kiosk at the edge of the Prophet’s Mosque complex, the Shaykh was reportedly manhandled. One eyewitness, Mohammed Hayward who saw the events transpire, said: “They manhandled him badly, he had blood on him. They forced him to sit under an air conditioning unit, and squashed him until he was blue in the face.” He added: “The situation here generally has been very tense. There has been a sense that Saudi [security personnel] are out to target people. I’ve been hearing abuse from them levelled at different groups. It’s very provocative.” For more information and further eyewitness reports please contact the IHRC Press Office on (+44) 7958522196, or via email at info@ihrc.org. Frontier Post :: Capital :: Tal-Parachinar Road closure results in large scale illegal business activities

Via Scoop.itFrom Parachinar The Pakistani Gaza

Tal-Parachinar Road closure results in large scale illegal business activities Posted on October 27, 2011 Anwer Abbas ISLAMABAD: Closure of the Tal-Parachinar road from last four years has reportedly become the profitable business of transportation and extortion for the security forces and local armed militants to fill their pockets.Informed Sources from Kurram Agency told The Frontier Post that on October 21 a convey escorted by the security forces managed to reach Peshawar, in wake of fear and panic as the Tehreek Taliban Islami commander Mullah Fazal Saeed had already announced that he was not the part of any peace deal between rival groups and no peace could be established in the area unless he gives green signal for that.It has been spotted that, since the closure of the Tal-Parachinar Road, four years back it has became a profitable business reportedly for the security forces personals as well as local talibans to provide people with the safe passage and to escort them in return of handsome financial deals. The Convoy comprising 200-250 locals from Kurram Agency, majority of passengers belonging to Turi-Bangish tribesmen, was earlier supposed to leave the Alizai area on October 16 after inking of recent peace accord but due to military campaign against the terrorists at Bagan and Spairkot areas, it was postponed. It has been learnt from the reliable sources that in recent convoy the passengers vowing to reach Peshawar from Ali Zai also paid amount worth Rs 1000-1200 to ensure their safe journey to reach their destination. It is pertinent to mention here that for around 220 Kilometer journey from Alizai to Peshawar the total fair prior to April 2007, when the siege of Kurram Agency was set, was around Rs 150-170.The convey at present normally moves from Parachinar or Alizaito Tal and then moves ahead to Peshawar, for which from Alizai to Tal area its costs a single person Rs 500, where as local residents of Tal and other areas which are rival to Parachinaris use to reach Peshawar from Tal by paying Rs 200 through private vehicles. Frontier Constabulary, which was main government force responsible for providing security to the residents of the Kurram Agency use to receive Rs 5000-7000 per trucks in case if they use the security assort fro Tal-Parachinar road, and thus at end it results into heavy collective amount. Unofficial reports are there, that at Chipari check post the amount worth Rs 50,000-0.1m is also being received prior permitting the goods laden vehicles to move in or out under security cover. In case if the convoy escorted by the security forces from Parachinar then from FC Fort at Parachinar the tickets- with stamps of Kurram Malitia-were being issued, however if it starts from the Alizai or other areas them only listing of the passengers traveling in the convoy is done.Due to worst conditions there at present three small private airplanes were also working in the Agency to fly passengers from Parachinar to Peshawar, including one four-seat plane, three 6-seats plane and one with capacity of eight seats. For the populous numbered in 0.6-0.8 m of Kurram Agency these airplanes use to fly from Parachianr to Peshawar twice a day charging people Rs 9700 per person which raises in case of armed conflicts and touches Rs 12000-14000.President Asif Ali Zardari thrice and Premier Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani twice has announced to open the air service for the area in the early days of their government but now after almost 4 years, their promises failed to be met.Despite violence, sectarianism and other issues in the area it has been spotted that one side of the image is that closure of the Tal-Parachinar road has irked the lives of locals where as on the other side it have became a profitable source of financial earnings for many
